El Mercado Restaurant at Faena Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina

El Mercado

El Mercado (restaurant) review

Loved, lauded, and occasionally criticised, this stunning restaurant tends to split opinions. But no one can deny that Philippe Starck was at his most inspired when he put El Mercado together. Behind all the beauty, an open kitchen dishes up traditional Argentinian food, from pates and squid-based entrees to rib-eye and tenderloin steaks, but it was the pink salmon with string fettuccini noodles in a vegetable-based, cream sauce that really impressed.

Inspirado en los viejos mercados europeos y las tradicionales cantinas italianas, el Mercado es otro de los lugares imperdibles de Faena Hotel + Universe.

El Mercado blends the energy of Buenos Aires’ legendary cantinas with the charm of Europe’s open-air markets. This warm, intimate space features the best of Argentinian cuisine prepared in our traditional adobe oven, authentic wood fire asados and dining alfresco on the restaurant’s terrace. Exposed brick, wooden tables and curated antiques from the historic San Telmo district reflect Argentina’s rich cultural heritage.
